This book is filled with wisdom and insight. The truth it proclaims cannot be denied. The trouble is in getting to and through the content. The authors speak, not authoritatively, but like they just read a lot of books. Their authority is only their research, not their experience. To be sure, I'm well aware of the Blackaby's and their leadership, but the book doesn't read as if a leader wrote it. It reads like a researcher wrote it.They throw in so many, "It was said of Winston Churchill... Martin Luther King Jr. once... Eleanor Roosevelt experienced..." Sometimes I just wanted to scream, "YOU'VE MADE THE POINT, NOW OFF TO THE NEXT ONE!"The book could be significantly reduced in length without these unnecessary illustrations. That being said, if you are good at hacking through weeds, you will find a treasure here. But if not, look elsewhere.

This book's primary audience is evangelical Christian pastors with an additional audience of Christians who serve or wish to serve in leadership positions in their churches, businesses and families. If you are of a strongly secular mindset, the book's thesis that God works in the world today will seem naïve or alien to you and I suspect that you will have difficulty accepting, let alone absorbing, the principal message of the book. The book examines a very wide range of leaders, both Christian and non-Christian, including Lee Iacocca, Napoleon, Henry VIII, Abraham Lincoln and Dwight L. Moody, for example. The authors focus on leadership in churches, businesses and families, but does not look intently at leadership in the realm of political campaigns and looks at political governance only at a high level. The book provides practical guidance on the challenges of leading, and sometimes failing, in churches, businesses and families. Financial gain, ego needs and sexual improprieties may, and do, adversely impact Christian leaders. How some, Billy Graham for instance, have avoided these downfalls are reviewed in the book. The book offers advice on team building and managing one's schedule to focus on the important matters, which includes the leader's family, which sometimes are not the most urgent. The book offers a great deal of practical advice on many aspects of leadership. The book is well written, but it isn't particularly short. If avoids the usual business book failure of providing one insight that takes 20-30 pages and then repeating that insight 5 or 6 times to have a book. You will need to engage the book to realize its message. God works on earth through humans and humans need leaders. Leaders face special challenges and the Blackabys offer scholarly insight on what makes effective leaders for God's work. I recommend the book.

Honestly, I have not yet finished the book; however, it provides a rather interesting analysis of leadership. Rather than focusing on the leader's skills or abilities that cause his rise to the position, the Blackabys hammer home the point that spiritual leadership is a calling. Our modern world has the mentality that we earn leadership, but this book challenges that notion. The format is one that I enjoy. Once the chapter is completed, the authors provide a bulleted list of what they believe to be the most important quotes or thoughts. Then, they provide a listing of the Bible verses quoted in the chapter. This format permits a reader to quickly go back and offer additional study. Anyone that gets this book will want to read it slowly, so the structured format permits a reader to chew on a chapter for awhile before returning to the text for additional study.I highly recommend this book for those seeking a Scriptural basis for leadership. Have a highlighter or pen in hand to thoroughly mark up this book. Ultimately, as my title says, leadership is about lordship. If He is Lord of our life, then we humble ourselves before Him and submit to His direction. If God appoints a leader to a position, then it reveals that He is Lord of all. Essentially, leadership is Lordship.

This is an revised and expanded version of the older ones from years prior.......plus there's some new material in it too. Overall it's still an excellent leadership book to read and learn from in one's every day aspects of one's life whether you're Christian or non-Christian.. But as a Christian leaders go through this book, you will learn something and even may learn something about yourself in the process. Even though this is geared toward a Christian beliefs or even if you're not a Christian, this is still a great book for leadership roles on the job as well. If you take your time and go through this book, you will learn something and it will help you in your daily life..

Leadership is not about skill. It's not about what seminars you can attend. It's about a calling. It's about character. The greatest leaders we can think of did not have storybook beginnings. They did not do everything right. They did not win every battle. They made lots of mistakes.Leadership is one of the most misunderstood capabilities or attributes. There are myriad books on the subject. Each one seems to address only a facet of it. Blackaby addresses it from the ground up -- God's design for each of us. Each chapter contains practical examples. The information shared is ready to apply to business, church, or personal situations.

Decent book with lots of biblical references although I don't agree with the way they apply God's will to almost everything, to the point where it starts to lose its meaning. And some of the leadership principles don't make sense.

A very insightful book detailing the Biblical view of genuine leadership under the authority of Jesus Christ. There are many personal testimonies given in the book to bring life to the message of the Bible about leadership - both success stories and failures. Worthy read and worthy application in anyone's life - mature believer or a new believer for life's challenges whether at work or home.
