DAVID FEINSTEIN, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist, has served on the faculties of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Antioch College, and the California School of Professional Psychology. I'm enjoying this book. It's an easy read and discusses many kinds of ethical situations that might arise for the Energy Practitioner over the course of years. I didn't realize this when I bought it, but it is designed specifically for students of Eden Energy Medicine to help them understand the Ethical Guidelines in that program. It is, however, useful for any new practitioner who wants / needs to understand the ethical issues involved in having a healing practice. There are many anecdotal "what if" situations presented to stimulate the reader's thinking about what can come up once practicing with the public is undertaken, and what options are available to resolve the issue that has arisen. If I had understood that it was written for Eden Energy Medicine students specifically, I might not have bought it. But at the same time, I am getting something out of it. I think the more relevant book on ethics for energy healers is the ethics book written by Dorothea Hover-Kramer, Creating Healing Relationships: Professional Standards for Energy Therapy Practitioners, which is referenced in this volume.
This is a well-written book that provides the seeds for thought-provoking discussions about ethics in the healing professions. I am almost certified in EFT (through EFT Universe) and this book is required reading for the ethics exam. It is an excellent choice. I do not come from a healing profession and I'm not a medical or mental health practitioner, so I appreciated the 50 detailed case studies and thoughtful discussions. The case studies run the gamut from whether you can date a client (the answer is "no," and not for at least a year after you work together), to whether you should barter your services, and to how to create boundaries to protect your reputation as well as your own health. This book is yet another reason that clients should seek out certified energy healing practitioners. Without this book and required ethics training, I would have definitely crossed some lines that would have left me vulnerable and not given my clients the most healing experience.
I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money on this, but I'm glad I did. As a reiki teacher, this is going to be required reading for my students. It gives a lot of scenarios where an energy practitioner can potentially get in trouble or just needs awareness of practical methods for addressing.
Ethics Handbook for Energy Healing Practitioners is a book to read more than once.I find the book interesting, and challenging. 50 case vignettes may seem quite demanding at times. The author offers various ideas, resources, and possible solutions.
It gives you great guidelines to follow when dealing with clients. The various examples make you think when you really want to help clients but at the same time you have to be mindful and help yourself. Great book
David has done an excellent job of outlining the most serious and common ethical dilemmas and how to best resolve them. Many thanks. Highly recommended.
Dr. Feinstein's book is a must read! I am a teacher for Alternative Healing and it's a requirement for all my students.
