I am ashamed to admit that this book has been lost in my kindle for over a year! It is also the first book that I've read from K.A. Linde and I really enjoyed her writing style. The plot was unique so that coupled with the great cast of characters kept me flipping the pages. I was very curious to see how the political aspect would tie into the book and it worked wonderfully. It created a great dynamic, full of angst, between the leading characters.Off the Record follows the story of up and coming reporter/ journalist Liz. She has been working at her way up for her campus newspaper while harboring a secret crush for her boss, Hayden. While they're at an event for the paper, Liz is thrust into the spotlight when she questions one Brady Maxwell III. She stunned him stupid for a second but he quickly brushed it off. He was intrigued by Liz and when they ran into each other again all bets were off. Holy hot! Those two together really burned up the sheets. They both wanted more and more but knew that there was a lot at stake if their affair got out. Most of the time Brady was cold and unapproachable. But I liked seeing the side of Brady that only Liz brought out. When his campaign mask wasn't on. In those moments he was sweet, sexy, thoughtful and kind.Of course, with Brady being in the spotlight and Liz being a reporter, things are a bit up in the air. I enjoyed the progression of their relationship as well. Both of their works reflected the change that their time together brought out in them. And that moment at the Fourth of July rally was one of my favorite parts of the entire book as well as when Brady introduced Liz to his best friend, Chris. The cast of secondary characters was great. Everyone from Heather to Clay to Victoria played a role in the grand scheme of things. All of the drama leads up to the big night, the primary. The votes are in and a winner is called. And that is where things end. Oh, but there is that little treat of some POV from Brady at the end. It was great getting inside of his head. I know that things are going to get much worse for Brady and Liz before they get better in the series. But, I for one love the angst and can't wait to see what is in store for them next.

Wow! This book was rather stunning. I had a feeling it was going to be a worthwhile read but I had no idea how much I'd enjoy it or how much it'd affect me. This book is a romance but it's set around politics. That it takes place as a candidate is campaigning for a primary was fitting as it's relevant to our current political clime. The political environment - what a candidate endures and sacrifices - particularly one that is young and idealistic - made for stimulating reading. The stage is set for sparks to fly when Liz Dougherty, a UNC journalism student with specific political ideals, covers the press conference where State Senator Brady Maxwell announces his intention to run for the US House of Representatives. See, Liz doesn't agree with Brady's voting record - on education, specifically - and fires a pretty scathing question at the Senator. It sets him off-balance and, of course, that's attractive to him. What I loved about Liz and Brady:1) Their chemistry was sizzlingly palpable2) At the beginning, they were honest with one another - almost brutally so3) They each gave up something of themselves in order to be with one another - it seemed like Brady didn't give up much but imagine having to hurt the one person you don't want to hurt in order to achieve a dream you aren't willing to give upWhat I didn't like so much about Liz and Brady:1) Brady expected more honesty from Liz than he was willing to give her - with the goal of not upsetting her2) Liz was always so brazen about sharing her political opinions with Brady but as her feelings grew, she became timid about sharing her emotions3) Brady asked a lot of Liz by keeping their relationship secret - he set all the rules and everything was mostly done on his terms4) They were each risking their careers to be together and they each believed it was worth keeping their relationship on the down-lowLinde did an excellent job in character development. Even though both Liz and Brady made decisions that had me shaking my head, I was in their corner, rooting for them. I can't imagine living in a world where the person I chose to date, or love, could threaten my career. But I know the ramifications for Brady and Liz - what they're risking. There are side characters who added drama, humor, and tension. I'm anxious to see the roles they play throughout Liz and Brady's story.I'm thrilled to have read Off the Record! My dilemma now is that I want to finish their story. NOW. Hmm, good thing I have some birthday cash handy. *wink*

Although I enjoyed this story and I really like the characters, it is just a little exhausting, as soon as these characters seem happy, they are back to a stressful hidden relationship that breaks their hearts a little bit each time they are reminded how they cannot have a public relationship.Liz Dougherty is a college reporter at UNC, and a very smart individual that normally has a stable head on her shoulders. She is honest, upfront in her opinions, she stays out of trouble, and works hard to make good grades and superb stories....until...Brady Maxwell.Once Brady Maxwell, "the sleek politician", comes along...Liz has lost her ability to think straight, and her honest intuition is crushed because her heart is falling for Brady. Brady and Liz start off by just secretly meeting up randomly but it flourishes into Love, by both parties involved, but with an election and a blooming journalism career ahead of them, timing is not good for the two of them. The characters drift in and out of a constant battle of feelings, neither of them being completely honest to each other and themselves, and the whole secretive relationship puts stress right on the table each and every time they seem to make a step forward to possibly being happy.Liz can't withdraw due to her strong feelings, and Brady is the, same. They have chosen to let their careers dictate their love decisions, and it's not working out for what's best for their hearts. The book ends with a cliffhanger, and I had hoped for a little bit more closure before the end, but I will have to wait! And although the story doesn't make my top 10 list, I Will be reading the next in the series, I must find out if Liz & Brady ever find their HEA.
