My grandkids ages 8 and 6 love Choose Your Own Adventure books. The other night when they stayed at our house, they were in bed at 7:30 ready for me to come in and read with them. They take turns deciding which path to take. These books are a great way to open up discussions on decision making and consequences in a fun and exciting way.

Its a pretty fun concept and the book itself isn't to bad but every ending is kind of almost a little over the top, from no one ever seeing you again to all your legs and arms being broken... Still options are always fun.

Cute story. Great opportunity to introduce "Choose Your Own Adventure" books to an early reader (1st-2nd). My son is a great reader, but shies away from chapter books. This is a great starter toward chapter books.

My little 9 year old enjoyed this book. I remember the teen versions and read them fondly as a child so I bought this one to introduce her to this chose your own adventure style of book. Not sure if she was as fond of it as I expected. She really like Dork Diaries but she did read them.

My 8 yr old Grandson loved this book so much he asked for more. :)

Great book for kids - Choose your own adventure books are a great way for kids to love / enjoy reading!

Adorable n funny

Ghost Island is a fun read. Students really enjoy it. Not scary more of an adventure as are all the CYOA books. Ghost Island (Choose Your Own Adventure - Dragonlark) (Choose Your Own Adventure. Dragonlarks)

Learn How to Quickly Solve Difficult ARDMS Test QuestionsHere's a little "secret" about the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Exam: the ARDMS tests are what we in the test preparation field call "content driven" tests. While some tests are looking to see what you are ABLE to learn, the purpose of the Abdomen, Adult Echocardiography, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Sonography Principles & Instrumentation, and Vascular Technology Examinations, offered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), are to test your understanding of what you have already learned. The goal of the ARDMS tests are to use a standardized testing process to create an objective assessment of a test taker's knowledge and skills. In other words, it's more about what you know than your ability to solve clever puzzles. This is good news for those who are serious about being prepared, because it boils down to a very simple strategy:You can succeed on the ARDMS tests and become a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by learning critical concepts on the test so that you are prepared for as many questions as possible.Repetition and thorough preparation is a process that rewards those who are serious about being prepared, which means that succeeding on the ARDMS test is within the reach of virtually anyone interested in learning the material. This is great news! It means that if you've been worried about your upcoming ARDMS test, you can rest easy IF you have a good strategy for knowing what to study and how to effectively use repetition to your advantage. But it also creates another set of problems. If you tried to memorize every single possible thing you can for your ARDMS test, the field of possible things to review would be so huge that you could not hope to cover everything in a reasonable time. That's why we created the Flashcard Study System for the ARDMS Certification Exams: we have taken all of the possible topics and reduced them down to the hundreds of concepts you must know and provided an easy-to-use learning method to guarantee success on your ARDMS test.We wanted this system to be simple, effective, and fast so that you can succeed on your ARDMS test with a minimum amount of time spent preparing for it. --Here Are Some of the Features of OurFlashcard Study System for the ARDMS Certification ExamsStudy after study has shown that repetition is the most effective form of learning- and nothing beats flashcards when it comes to making repetitive learning fun and fastFlashcards engage more of your senses in the learning process- you "compete" with yourself to see if you know the answers to the questions, and the flipping action gets you actively involved in the learning processOur cards are printed on heavy, bright white 67 lb. cover stock, and are laser printed at 1200 dpi on our industrial printers- these are professional-quality cards that will not smear or wear out with heavy usageWe cover the major content areas on the examOur flashcards include an edge that is micro-perforated, which means that you are much less likely to have a painful paper cut on your fingers when moving quickly through the cardsOur cards are portable, making it easy for you to grab a few and study while waiting for the bus or the doctor, or anywhere where you have a spare moment that would otherwise be wastedOur ARDMS test cards are written in an easy to understand, straightforward style - we don't include any more technical jargon than what you need to pass the testThe cards are a generous size- 3.67 x 4.25 inches- they fit perfectly in your hands and they aren't so small that you have to use a magnifying glass to read tiny type- all questions and answers are in a normal-size print for easy studyingOur cards include in-depth explanations- you won't see any "one word" answers on our cards that require you to go get a textbook to understand why your answer was wrong- all of our cards include generous, thorough explanations so you not only get it right or wrong- but you also know why!We use a font created by Microsoft to make reading easier- this will enable you to absorb more information painlessly during late night study sessionsOur system enables you to study in small, digestible bits of information- unlike using boring textbooks, flashcards turn learning into a "game" you can play until you've mastered the materialIt's easy for a friend to help you study- they don't even have to know anything about the ARDMS test- if they can read, then they can quiz you with our flashcards! Now, let us explain what the Flashcard Study System for the ARDMS Certification Exams is not. Very practical resource for my vascular technicians and also for my physician assistant students who are rotating on our vascular service who have an interest in vascular ultrasound, vascular physiology - it is a good resource to have around and to pass around for many types of practitioners - RVT, RVT students, general sonographers, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, doctors ..

I enjoy how much material was included with these flash cards. I feel like I will learn all I need to and more for my exam. My only complaint would be that there is too much information on each card. I feel like if some of the information was spread out on more cards I would be able to memorize better and easier.

I find that flashcard study system is more useful for those of us who are on the go at all times, they are easy to carry and fun to read through while on your way to work or back from work. I do recommend this product for those who have trouble memorizing all the pathology and details that comes with your specialty exam. It makes reviewing for the exam much more quicker and in the organized manner.

It is good but not has in depth as I expected.more questions with more detailed answers would be better. I would be willing to pay extra.

I'm very happy for getting these flash cards so far it's help me a lot with my studying. It has a lot of good information and with an easy method for memorizing. I will recommended to anyone that is going to take the ultrasound abdomen test, I like it.

Very Helpful!

Like with my other set of cards from this company, spelling mistakes were abundant. Unimpressed with that.

So far I like the flashcards, but some are a little lengthy, hard to commit to memory.

About the Author

Growing up in a conservative small town along the Maine coast, Kevin Blackwood never anticipated visiting Sin City. With aspirations of becoming a college professor, he traveled the usual roads of academia, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in religious education and Biblical history. His journey took a sudden detour in 1984. While working on his doctorate at the University of Oregon, he learned how to count cards and started playing blackjack on weekends. His studies began to pale in comparison to the exciting world of gambling. And one day, after a futile effort to find a parking spot on the crowded campus, he bagged his plans to teach church history, quit school — and headed to Las Vegas. Since then, Blackwood has lived what many would consider the American dream, earning big bucks while working only part-time, winning consistently at blackjack tables all over the world. More recently, he has jumped on the Texas Hold’em bandwagon, with several poker tournament wins under his belt. His unusual life experiences inspired Blackwood to write a novel, The Counter (Wooden Pagoda Press). In addition, he is the author of Play Blackjack Like the Pros (HarperCollins), the most comprehensive guide to becoming a winning blackjack player. He has also written for magazines, including Casino Player, Midwest Gaming and Travel, Blackjack Insider, and Gambling.com. His TV appearances include the World Series of Blackjack (semifinalist 2005) and the Ultimate Blackjack Tour (finalist 2006).

I like this book and have never been disappointed with any of my "For Dummies" books. My interest is only in learning the mechanics of the various games so that my periodic trips to the casino can provide more enjoyment from a variety of challenges. This book provides that and more. However strategies for winning are not my goal and the book provides much more info than I require. This is an observation and not a critique. If you are looking for more than "nuts and bolts", look no further. "Crib sheets" would be a nice addition.

I just picked this up before an upcoming trip to Vegas, and read through most of it. The author's writing style is very readable, he goes to great lengths to simply explain all the common table games and their relative level of fun versus the house advantage cost of playing them. I highly recommend this book for those looking to add some new games to their casino experience.

This book is great for those wanting to learn how to play the basic casino games (poker, craps, roulette, etc.) and know table etiquette. I haven't finished the book yet but what I have read so far has been very helpful. The book is extensive and covers just about everything, plus the dashes of humor make the reading fun and enjoyable. Shipping was prompt, item arrived on the expected delivery date and was in excellent condition. If you are contemplating whether or not to buy this book, do it....it is money well spent.

No you won't win thousands of dollars by reading this book, but if you follow the guidelines you won't lose thousands either. I saw a guy in Vegas drop $500 in 20 minutes at craps doing something that this book said in the craps section to absolutely not do: This book has good advice on what not to do and what to do. If you want to have fun gambling, if you are worried about just throwing your money away because you don't know the rules, if you worried about not knowing table etiquette or which hand motions to use when, if you are worried about looking a fool to the others at the table, then this book will calm your fears. Most importantly it points out what the odds are for each game, and when you find a game that suits you the book shows you how to possibly be a winner by playing conservatively and how not to definitely be a loser by falling for the "showy" bets. I thought it to be a very good book for a beginner.

Great info and easily readable. Lots of good points and very honest about gambling as a losing proposition. Helped me feel comfortable as I approached the tables, and gave me confidence - not that I would win, but that I would not embarass myself by not knowing the rules and etiquette of the games. Tells you what the games are with the lowest casino edge (there are none with a players edge), and what the real sucker bets are. Tells it like it is - no hype and drama.

Tells pretty much all you need to know to get started playing for real money in the casinos. I ordered this book only to discover I already had it in my collection, so into the little free library it goes.

This is a well-organized, realistic introduction to casino gambling. It doesn't pump you full of air and try to get you all excited about how to take on the casinos and become a millionaire, like some books unfortunately do. It just presents the facts of the games, as well as the strategies to use (and the ones to avoid.)Although it does not go into great detail about the finer points of the games (nor does it claim to), it provides enough information to get you started, and encourages you to learn more if you should so desire.I think this is a great book for casino newbies, and helps someone enjoy the casino without gambling away your retirement fund.

I taking my first trip to Las Vegas since 1986, and I am not much of a gambler. I was looking for a primer that explains what to expect in Vegas and how to play the different games. Casino Gambling for Dummies tells rookies exaclty what they need to know for a trip to the Strip. The book explains the various games of chance. Each chapter starts with rules and then moves on to strategies. The first 65 pages of the book discuss odds, etiquette, and what to expect. If you are planning your first trip to a casino, this book is a great investment!

This book had a profound effect on my thinking about how to be a parent. I don't think of myself as the type who hovers, but I'm starting to understand that I hover more than I realize. It's not that the author is advocating for hands-off parenting. Instead, she points out a lot of the ways in which parents take the reins and deny their kids all sense of control, and how detrimental that can be. We want our kids to grow up to be responsible and capable adults, but how can they do that when we take away their sense of autonomy? This book made me realize it's more important for me to teach my kids life skills like how to manage their time than it is for me to be managing every detail. My doing so comes from good intentions and a desire to see them succeed, but at the same time it conveys subtle messages to them I don't want conveyed.I read a lot of psychology and social science books because the research just plain fascinates me. While this book offers a lot of anecdotes, it's also infused with an excellent grasp of research. Lahey's background in education shines through, and her suggestions are grounded in the same evidence-based research that I've read. If kids seem different today, it's because they are, and it's not just technology that's driving this change, it's the way parents treat their children and how they view them. We want them to be successful, but in our test-driven, high achieving culture, we are sometimes guilty of emphasizing the wrong things. After reading a great deal about helpless college students, children suffering from stress-related ills, and the mental health problems plaguing universities, this book helped me form an idea as to why this may be: rather than teaching our children to work for the things they want, we're setting them on a prescribed path and sending them the message that they're only okay as long as they follow that prescribed path. Reading this book makes the mystifying question of why children don't want to take risks quite clear: because we've taught them that there's nothing worse than failure.Yet this book doesn't just discuss research, it also offers a lot of practical solutions for parents. Fair warning, though: not all of these suggestions are easy to swallow. This is where some of the pain came in for me, because I saw myself reflected in some of the behaviors Lahey suggests parents need to break. Giving her suggestions a try isn't going to be easy from a parenting standpoint, and it will require me to retrain myself as well.I also think there's a lot of value in how this book offers some very good insight into the educational system, which I think is a big benefit to parents who don't come from a teaching background. Lahey proposes that parents and teachers work as partners, and she offers suggestions for how parents can open up dialog with their kids' teachers. Considering how adversarial our current culture and politics paint the relationship between educators and parents, there is a great deal of value in this aspect of the book. It doesn't serve anyone for parents and teachers to be at one another's throats, not when both sides want the same thing. This book offers constructive ways parents can form that partnership with teachers, so that everyone can work together toward the same goal.I highly recommend this book to both parents and educators.

This is one of the few parenting books I have read to the very end. (I have started MANY over 14 years.) All parents will find support and expert advice here for how to embrace mistakes as learning opportunities that can help children become better at school and at life. It will help you put your child’s school performance in perspective; think about the nature of the relationship you want to have with your child and her teachers; and nurture autonomy and independence in your child. It is the perfect read at the start of a new school year—for all grades, but especially middle school and high school. Love it. So helpful.

Great book with some great points. Everything comes too easy to kids now as they are growing up. There is power in failure and being accountable and as a parent and as a teacher I am constantly having this debate with parents and peers. There are developmental skills that need to be developed and this book hits on that need.

I read this book at the recommendation of my son's school counselor. It was a total eye opener and will greatly impact and change the way I raise my son going forward. This book could have easily been titled, "The way I used to parent" because it is so accurate down to so many details as it describes my parenting techniques and motivations. I have made many changes already and my son doesn't quite understand who I am anymore. I'm certain that he appreciates the changes although he's a bit disoriented currently, but I know he will be better off in the long run.I wish there were more anecdotes or perhaps several role playing scenarios added to help offer more suggestions on how to handle more situations but the book was extremely helpful and insightful regardless. Most of the anecdotes I saw play out in our family or with other students from my son's school within hours or days of reading the book. It was amazing.

From the very title, I was curious about this book, and what it had to offer for me and my children. It came through outstandingly. I found it a little repetitive, but it should definitely be standard reading for any parent who wishes his children to succeed, which I like to believe is all of us.

WOW! This is a great book. My kids teacher recommended this book to read over the summer. Lots of great tips and not gudgemental like a lot of parents books are.

great book. Very important to give our kids freedom to fail and try again - to strive to succeed by learning that failure is ok and you have to fail to learn and grow and succeed in life. No one should get a trophy unless they truly earn it.

This book was full of great insight. Our school district put a parent book club to discuss this and it was fabulous. Highly recommend this read!

I think it works really well for kids but not as an adult. I guess I wanted something unique...and I guess I did get my wish. The paper feels a children’s coloring book, there’s indents in each page, and in the end, for just paper to draw on...meh. Definitely go buy an actual sketchbook then this; would not recommend.

I bought this for my 10-year-old niece, along with some art supplies, for Christmas. The quality of paper seems pretty standard--not artist quality, but not super cheap either. She was very happy with it, and the cute design on the cover was great for her age.

This is not a sketchbook for an artist. It is an awesome sketchbook for a young person. Appears to be well made. Paper quality is nice. It is a very slight tooth to it, which is good. Great gift!

It’s alright,if you’re looking for quality paper I suggest you look elsewhere it’s thin and there’s these odd half triangles in the corners of the paper and really it’s no better than printer paper

Perfect size for my daughter! She will love it!

Adorable sketchbook and nice quality!

A great way to keep my kid's drawings all in one place and organized. They love having their own book to carry and draw on.

Very cute sketchbook for a tween girl. A little on the pricey side for a notebook though.

I actually love these stories and the author. But I hate that Random House Inc put 8 stories on 5 CDs. Soooo annoying! try to have your kids listen to a full story, and then 3 chapters from a second story and then ask you to change the CD. then the next disc is two halves of 2 different stories, its just terrible. Even worse, I tried to rip the CDs and put them on the ipod, but the formatting is all off. All of the chapters are mislabled as are the stories and the CD numbers. I'll never look at Random House the same again, so dissapointed in them. We have four sets of these stories, but I refuse to ever buy another thing from Random House

I listened to part of the story with my 4yr old nephew. It did not hold his interest and I found it a bit irritating. I know these are very popular childrens' books, so maybe the paper version will be better when he learns to read. And perhaps he's too young for the content of these stories, but even if he were older I don't think I could sit through this listening with him.

My kids and I love the Magic Tree House books! I can't give this audio book 5 stars, though, because of how Random House formatted the books on CDs. Rather than giving one CD per book, the 8 books are spread across 5 CDs. When my kids are listening to a book at bedtime, I don't want them to have to get up and change CDs halfway through a book, let alone try to find the start of a book in the middle of a CD. I wish Random house had spent the tiny bit of extra money to have one CD per book, and to print a picture of the book cover on each CD.I'm fixing the problem by making copies for my kids, including the tracks for each book on a separate CD, and printing labels using book cover images. For those who aren't technically savvy, this isn't the best solution. Random House, please think about the audience (4-8 year old kids) before skimping like this again.

If your child enjoys reading the magic tree house series I highly recommend these CD's. We listen to them while reading the books which is great for my 7-year old who can following the words as she goes. The author narrates the book and it's done well, easy to listen to and very enjoyable. My kids learn so much from every book, they go in the past and teach them history but the stores are fun so the kids enjoy it. The series starts off easier reading and gets progressively harder as the books go on. We have to #40.

As others have mentioned, this product is a complete disaster from a practical standpoint. The discs are unlabeled as far as which parts of which books are on each disc, and the books are not cleanly put on one disc per book. It's almost a complete waste of money for this reason. Also the performance is HORRIBLE. Whoever decided MP Osborne was the right person to narrate these stories should be ringing up aspirin at Rite Aid, because the decision was a bad one. MPO is a terrible reader, and this goes especially for her rendering of Annie, who she voices like a whiny 3-year-old.Definitely definitely pass.

My 6yo daughter was dying to get these -- she's read and loved all the books -- and she is enjoying them so far. Immediately my daughter said she wanted to hear "Mummies at Midnight" first -- and that's when I realized that not only are the 8 books split up over 5 CDs, there's not even a TRACK LISTING printed anywhere. Seriously. They're so cheap they can't spring for 8 CDs, ok -- but why on EARTH wouldn't they include a little sheet of paper with the track listing so you can figure out what books/chapters are on what CD?? For a few pennies more, this set would be dramatically better. I feel ripped off.

Great stories! I hate to be critical of such a great author but I wish someone else did the reading on the CDs. The author is the narrator and she's a little monotone and boring to listen to.

We bought these so that our daughter could listen to books in the car rather than watching movies on long trips. These stories are fun for the whole family. The only thing my husband and I don't like is actually the voice of the author. I feel really bad saying it but she just tries a little too hard. Other than that these are great books and you get a whole 8 stories! I would say that the age range for these is probably 3 to 9 years.
