The author could have said and written the same book in one third of the pages, because most of the observations and information are repeated again and again and the writer is a very boring writer. He can put you to sleep many times during the process of reading the book. I had to force myself to finish it.He writes like a teenager fascinated by his idol and the company he founded, but he fails to go deeper in the mind of Steve/Apple. Possibly because he never had a close relationship with Steve J. and he is only getting information from third parties and again his observations are very flat & superficial. You will be able to find this kind of information and so much more in other better business books .Save your money and get a book written by the person doing and implementing the creative thinking (owner, entrepreneur, etc etc)

Review
Neonatologist and clinical neuroscientist Pape argues that treatments for children with early damage to the brain, nerves, or spinal cord have not been ambitious enough. Her goal is "a cure for some, improvement for all." She criticizes the inertia she has observed in medicine that causes many primary care providers to postpone referring patients with cerebral palsy (CP) for treatment until symptoms become "bad enough" to warrant attention. Early intervention, she argues, produces far better results. She criticizes the same inertia for resisting challenges to the disproved yet still common belief that in many cases, rehabilitation is impossible and the best possible outcome is the child's condition failing to worsen. Using personal observations, case studies, and published research, Pape makes a convincing case for a more optimistic prognosis for children with CP. The book reads like an academic text, and the tone is likely too esoteric for general readers, but Pape's descriptions of a variety of treatments may provide useful updates for medical professionals, and the whole book will be interesting to parents and caregivers of children with cerebral palsy. (PUBLISHERS WEEKLY)“This book is chock-full of cases of children with cerebral palsy who vastly exceed their physicians’ expectations, as well as practical advice for parents and caregivers on how this can be done. Karen Pape, MD, is a pioneer, rightly demanding that colleagues integrate the new science of brain plasticity as it applies to these children, and this is her cri de coeur, recording not only the new breakthroughs, but effectively explaining why, tragically, so many families are still denied these important interventions.†(NORMAN DOIDGE, MD, AUTHOR OF THE BRAIN’S WAY OF HEALING AND THE BRAIN THAT CHANGES ITSELF)“The delightful history of a feisty, path-finding doctor on the way to helping every child with early brain injury to a better life. It’s chock-full of wisdom, deep scientific and medical understanding, wonderful practical advice, and justified hope.†(MICHAEL MERZENICH, PHD, PROFESSOR EMERITUS, UCSF, AUTHOR OF SOFT-WIRED, AND WINNER OF THE 2016 KAVLI PRIZE IN NEUROSCIENCE)“An affirmation of the life-changing benefits of neuroplastic healing and some powerful lessons for life.†(JAY GREENSPAN, MD, MBA, NEONATOLOGIST, PEDIATRICIAN-IN-CHIEF, A.I. DUPONT HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN)“Accessible insights into breakthroughs in the understanding of neurological deficits in children, and exciting additions to the repertoire of available treatment methods.†(WARWICK J. PEACOCK, MD, DIRECTOR OF THE SURGICAL SCIENCE LABORATORY AT UCLA, PROFESSOR EMERITUS NEUROSURGERY, UCSF)“Never before has a book been written that so effectively marries science and story to help parents understand how they can improve their child’s potential.†(PROFESSOR IONA NOVAK, PHD, HEAD OF RESEARCH, RESEARCH INSTITUTE, CEREBRAL PALSY ALLIANCE, UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA)  “Dr. Karen Pape changes the paradigm ‘No hope of a cure’ to ‘Cure for some and improvement for all,’ giving children with brain damage a reason to fight.†(LORENZO BELTRAME, PROFESSIONAL TENNIS PLAYER AND COACH, AWARDED COACH OF THE YEAR AND “DOC†COUNSILMAN SCIENCE AWARDS BY THE UNITED STATES OLYMPIC COMMITTEE)

My son was diagnosed with CP 6 months ago, and this is by far, the most helpful resource I’ve come upon. Dr. Pape understands the struggles and frustrations of families like mine, and gives advice and research to help us communicate with the rehab teams and specialists. My son is affected mildly and we continue to fall into the group of overlooked patients, because he’s ambulatory and mildly affected. There is no focus on his pain or side effects that could cause further pain, as the goal for most specialists we’ve met is simply walking. If you’re new to the CP world, this is the book to read. It gives you hope and realistic strategies to continue fighting for your child. I’m forever grateful for Dr. Pape and her work.
I was lucky enough to read an advance copy of this and I read from cover to cover without putting it down while our son was receiving therapy at a great centre who practice what Dr Pape has learned. What Dr Pape does for families of CP kids and adults is to think outside the square and show us that what we have options. The changes we have put in for our son are getting real results and we have been lucky enough to experience many changes in him and some within a day and we will continue to work on him to get him the best recovery. "Habit hides recovery" is a key concept and I would urge any parent of a CP kid to take this book and look for therapists that are willing to work with that in mind. Dr Pape is truly an revolutionary for not accepting the norm and looking at options. The day I stumbled onto a Ted talk of her's last year was truly the most life altering event for our 9 year old son, I cannot recommend this book and Dr Pape's work highly enough.
This book makes so much sense to me as an occupational therapist and mother of a child with a neurological condition. These theories will guide my treatment ideas with him. My mother, who has no medical background knowledge, read this book and took away from it a decent, basic understanding of Neuro-rehab.
Suggested for an HIE baby early on and offers real hope and stories meant to encourage. We learned a lot about what the future can hold. Highly recommend for parents with HIE children.
As a parent of a 5 year old daughter with severe quadriplegic CP, this book has really renewed my faith in the possibility for her improvement. The book was written in a way that made it easy for me (not in medical field) to understand and gave me ideas about where I need to go from here. Thanks for this great book!
Thank you Dr. Karen Pape and Dr. Pia Stampe for this book. It has been thought-provoking, challenging and eye-opening. This book has made a huge difference in my physical therapy career. This book has taught me so much as a pediatric physical therapist. I look forward to using this book in my day to day practice to make a difference in the lives of children and their families.
Great book! I am a student in physical therapy school and I had the pleasure to do a rotation in a pediatric clinic and this book was recommended to me by my clinical instructor. Very helpful for any therapist or medical provider to read!
Every parent of a child with CP and every Physical and Occupational Therapist should read this book! It is that important.

Shenon does it again. This author shows us how men and women of great intelligence, independence and integrity being engaged in a grueling effort to reach unanimous conclusions about 9-11 sadly find themselves manipulated, stymied and managed by the dark side. Nobody yet has any idea how this mass murder plot was pulled together. The only actual investigative leads, those clearly leading to the Saudi Ambassador are stamped out like a brush fire. In the end, Bush not only shields the Saudis, he also insists on protecting himself, Cheney and Rice from even the mildest criticism. Air Force General Myers and CIA director Tenent also flat-out lied under oath about the death of 3,000 civilians. Neither went to prison or even lost a day's pay. Maybe in 100 years the truth will start to be accepted.
"The whole system was blinking red." Unfortunately our "leaders" ran all the lights. Worse yet, now we have one whose whole life is about stirring up hate and discontent. His worshippers still pretend there were WMDs in Irag, as some now pretend there was no Nazi Holocaust.. The first lesson we learn from history is that no one ever learns anything from history. "Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad."
Even years after the commission report came out, this account (recommended to me by an Italian relative) is gripping and disturbing. I followed the commission's work carefully - reading all accounts in the New York Times, etc. - but always assumed they were covering up Bush's failures and Saudi involvement. This book, in describing how the commission went about its work, justifies my assumptions, and much more. The weakness of the two heads of the commission is astonishing. They wanted a unanimous report, but they got it at the expense of truth. The fact that they gave the job over to a republican partisan is jaw dropping. Those of you who are young enough may find out the truth in 50 years or so, but we certainly don't know it now. And, as usual, there was no accountability.I think it is a must read for every American, even now.
Great book about the 9/11 Commission. It had a ton of great details and covers the whole process. The only reason I gave it a four stars was the fact that the book starts off a little slow and throws a lot of information. For the first chapter or so it jumps around and a lot. Other than that it was an interesting read.
If we hold on to our critical faculties and thinking this book opens our eyes and see the unseen. The lies and the failure of the the elected officals that are put in office to serve the public have failed us miseribly. History will reveal and separate the lies we were fed on a daily basis by the media. We live in an Industrial society that in Eisenhowers farewell speech, he asked the people to beware of the Industrial Militery Complex. Everyone remembers where they were on that horrific day. If you are old enough you knew and recall the day a President was assainated in 1963. Like a scene from "The Newsroom"on HBO where were the reporters like Huntley and Brinkley, Walter Chroncite, etc. Instead we were fed ...repeating videos of towers falling, people running, smoke and death. Traumatizing and abusing a society of "Shock and Awe". Everyone should read this book.
Useful if the other book is purchased. The Commission: The Uncensored History of the 9/11 Investigation Hardcover – January 31, 2008. Both books provide unique aspects to this case.
This book is a must read for every individual who has read the 9/11 Commission Report and still believes the report was independent and is the most reliable and accurate assessment of the 9/11 attacks. Philip Shenon clearly shows how the most important member of the Commission, Philip Zelikow, the Executive Director and the 9/11 Report's main author, did his best to manipulate and sway the investigation and final report in favor of his friends and like minded ideologues in the Bush Administration. This book will undoubtedly infuriate most Americans who try to believe in our government and who expected honesty and credibility in the 9/11 investigation. Choosing the heavily conflicted Zelikow as the ED was the type of decision one would have expected from a third world country, it was the kind of decision that democracy suppressor Vladimir Putin of Russia would have been proud to have gotten away with. Shenon basically shows that when you start with rotten fish, you end up with rotten fish.Overall, I would recommend this book, it provides some good additional insight into the 9/11 investigation and shows how politicized it really was. Following are some of the other positives and negatives of this book:Positives:1. It's an easy and entertaining read, similar to the 9/11 Commission Report, and also written for mass appeal and corporate media approval.2. Has a good focus on Zelikow's many significant conflicts of interest and how the investigation and final report were heavily influenced by these conflicts.3. Highlights the incompetence and credibility concerns of Condoleezza Rice and other top Administration officials (particularly Tenet and Ashcroft, and to a lesser extent, the infinitely incurious President Bush).4. Provides some interesting insights into the commission's investigation and how important issues were addressed and resolved, including with the White House and the intelligence agencies.5. Provides interesting color and background on most of the commissioners and a handful of the key staffers.Negatives:1. Somewhat light on new facts. A lot of Shenon's information can actually be found in the 9/11 Commission Report (although with much less attention and / or buried in the footnotes) and Kean & Hamilton's, "Without Precedent." It does have the benefit of some additional insight from interviews with approximately 40 commissioners and / or staff, as well as Andy Card.2. It is almost comical that Shenon writes over 400 pages citing significant conflicts of interest by the commission's top member and author, a manipulated investigation and final report, significant and blatant intelligence failures, attempted "known" cover-ups, lying and unaccountable government and intelligence officials, etc, but then unquestionably assures us in about 1 page that only al-Qaeda was responsible??? It seems like a questionable conclusion on Shenon's part given some of the facts in his book appear to at least give rise to the "possibility" of complicity by others. David Ray Griffin's above review on March 19, 2008, actually addresses this issue in greater and more eloquent detail.America failed the victims and families of 9/11 when we sat idly by and blindly accepted the white washed 9/11 Commission Report. Unfortunately, we will probably never have a reinvestigation of the 9/11 attacks, but Philip Shenon has at least done his part in showing a vastly different story to the account held in the 9/11 Commission Report. For his part, Shenon has corrected a small piece of history, I can only hope that some of the other commissioners or staffers follow in his footsteps in further setting the record straight.
This is a must read for anyone wanting to know the details of how and why a handful of Islamic religious zealots were able to fundamentally change the way we in the United States look at ourselves and our relationship with the rest of the world. It was heartbreaking to learn just how dysfunctional our politicians, law enforcement agencies, defense department, and spy agencies were and probably still are when it come to protecting us from these types of attacks.

A captivating story with sword-bearing rabbits, daring quests, and moments of poignant beauty, The Green Ember is a tale that will delight and inspire young readers to courage and creativity. --Sarah Clarkson, Author of Read for the Heart and Caught Up In A StoryI don't usually tell people that there is a book they absolutely-must-no-questions-HAVE-TO-without-a-doubt read. But this one? How shall I put this? If I could choose only one book for my kids to read this year, this would be it. How's that for a recommendation? Go get it! Officially our favorite read-aloud ever. I'm recommending this to everyone who happens to lend me their ear for 5 seconds. From the Read-Aloud Revival to S.D. Smith: thank you for giving us this beautiful gem! --Sarah Mackenzie, Author of Teaching From Rest, Host of The Read-Aloud Revival PodcastS. D. A new story with an old soul. That's how this book has been described by others who have fallen in love with it and I could not agree more. I was surprised to find something that reminded me, powerfully, of Edith Nesbit, CS Lewis and George MacDonald - while being something completely different at the same time.A hero story, this is more Hobbit than Watership Down. More Narnia than Beatrix Potter. And it works. I was skeptical because I usually prefer my animal characters to be of the James Herriot kind - rather than the talking Beaver kind. But, this, like Lewis, somehow lets us forget that Heather and Picket are animals and instead we relate to the heroes in these interesting characters.I had a hard time getting into the story. Because I had no idea what the intention was, I struggled in the first few chapters. They were almost too pastoral for me. Looking backwards, I understand now that they are in fact much like the beginning of The Hobbit - the innocence of the Shire (I mean Nick Hollow) must be acknowledged before the adventure can begin.Once Picket and Heather and are on the run, the story comes alive.I have waited weeks to write this review because I want so badly to communicate the profound value of this humble and tender little story. Even two months later, words fail me.Heather and Picket are unwitting participants in an adventure that transforms them into the very best versions of themselves - in the old fashioned way. They suffer much. They struggle against themselves. They humble themselves. They confront their own worst attributes. And they do it with the help of incredible mentors and new friends who have their own complex histories. There is so much to love about this book. It feeds the imagination, nourishes the soul and fortifies the character of the reader.S.D. Smith is the creative force behind Story Warren - a website dedicated to being the horns of Rohan in our lives as we seek stories of truth, goodness and beauty that point our children to the Maker. There is a sincerity in S.D. Smith's writing that makes the reader feel like they too could be the heroes of their own stories. Like the greats that Smith loves (Tolkien, Lewis, etc.), he tells stories worth knowing. Stories which inform the moral imagination and continue to speak to the reader long after the book has been returned to the shelf. It is exactly as S.D. Smith says at Story Warren - they are on our side. They are allies in imagination.I have been asked about the intensity level of this book. I would put it at the same level as The Last Battle. My four year old had no problem with this book but he is not particularly sensitive. I think that it is fair to say that the intensity progresses as follows:NarniaThe Green Ember/The Black Star of KingstonThe Hobbit/The Wingfeather SagaThe Lord of the Rings
Okay, I'm a 42 year old father of 4. I have 3 daughters (16, 7, and 5) and one son (13). I saw this while browsing on Amazon and thought, "The cover looks cool. Hmm.. the reviews are good. I wonder if the kids would like to read this?" Well, I decided to take it for a test spin, so to speak, and, as it turns out, I loved it!I'm probably going to need to edit this review later after I read this out loud with my younger daughters and give their reaction but I thought S. D. Smith did a great job. There's an epic feeling here and the characters are just great. The illustrations are sure to pull your kids in--they're great.Anyway, I can't wait to read this with my kids and to continue the adventure with Picket, Heather, and the rest of the outstanding cast of characters.Check it out!
Rabbits? That has to be something cute like Beatrix Potter’s stories, right? That’s what I thought when I heard about this book by S.D. Smith. I picked it up anyway since it looked all right and might be something my little sisters would enjoy. Rabbits, seriously? No, these rabbits are different—they have swords, and a war, and a lost king. They have a well-written, compelling story (good enough to have quotes out of it!) that surprised me with its depth of plot. The cover shows that it was probably intended for middle graders. Sorry, eight-to-twelve-year-olds, I claim it. It’s mine. The Setting:Set in the fantasy world of Natalia—a world very much like our own—this book had a nice heroic and medieval feel. Since it’s told from the perspective of rabbits, that made the action quite different from your usual book; and it also made the regular dangers of the forest even scarier. Seriously, imagine being able to jump around like crazy while you are sword fighting or to give a wolf a hard kick with your hind legs. The Story:The story was very good, better than some things I’ve read that are for older audiences! At first glance, it seems quite similar to all the other oh-wow-we’re-the-lost-heirs-of-wherever books. Not so in the least! Very surprising and satisfying. There were also great lessons on forgiveness and heart-warming (even funny!) moments along the way.The Characters:I loved Heather and Picket—they were so real. (I even forgot they were rabbits at some points.) Emma, Gort, Uncle Wilfred, and Smalls were also great favorites of mine. I found Kyle and Helmer intriguing and couldn’t wait to find out who they really were. The Concerns:Parents should have caution in choosing this book for younger readers because of some intense, un-graphic action and some bad attitude that is later resolved. Also, SPOILER ALERT!!!! Heather and Picket’s home is burnt by some pretty scary wolves, and they don’t know what happened to their parents and baby brother. And because they are rabbits (that’s not important though, right?) when they are underground there is mention of creepy creatures chasing them and the wolves do threaten to eat them sometimes. And, SPOILER ALERT AGAIN!!! massive battle at the end does mention rabbits being dead or wounded. So—read this book!!!!! I found it to be an awesome, well-written story! It is actually the second book, but it can pretty much stand-alone.
Courage, fear, loyalty, betrayal, secrets, and promise ... this story captured the imagination of our entire family (with children ages 1-18) and held us in its grasp until the last page.Worth every penny.
